Slippery elm has been known by its purpose for centuries. Native to North America, its inner bark was carried by Indigenous healers not as a remedy of last resort but as a first response — applied to irritated skin, inflamed wounds, and dry or troubled complexions long before the botanical world gave it a Latin name. The knowledge of what it does was simply passed down through hands that needed it to work. It did. It does.

This is a bar built for skin that needs more than cleansing — skin that needs tending. Slippery elm's natural mucilage creates a gentle, protective coating over the skin during lather, calming irritation and holding moisture in place while the bar does its work. Goat milk powder brings lactic acid and vitamins A and D into the formula, softening and renewing the skin's surface with a creaminess that makes itself known from the first wash.

Shea butter and olive oil bring deep, lasting nourishment. Castor oil builds the lather into something rich and slow. Kaolin clay — the gentlest of clays — refines and clarifies without disturbing the skin's balance. Sodium lactate ensures the bar holds its shape and integrity from the first use to the last.

Pearl pink mica gives The Elm Bar a soft, luminous finish — warm and quiet, the way the fragrance behaves. The fragrance opens dark and resinous, patchouli and blackberry woven into its core, before vanilla and sandalwood draw it into something softer, skin-close, and deeply settled. A scent that does not announce itself. It simply stays.

Made in small batches. Cured with patience. Every bar is a considered thing.

Key Ingredients

Slippery Elm Bark Powder: The inner bark of the slippery elm tree has been used by Indigenous peoples of North America for centuries — as a food, a medicine, and a topical treatment for burns, wounds, and irritated skin. Its defining property is mucilage: a gel-like substance that, when wet, coats and soothes whatever it touches. On skin, this means a protective barrier that calms inflammation, reduces redness, and holds moisture in place during cleansing. It is one of the gentlest and most effective botanical soothing agents known — and one of the least celebrated outside of the traditions that kept it.

Goat Milk Powder: Goat milk has been used in skincare since antiquity — Cleopatra's milk baths are among the most cited examples, though the practice was far more widespread and far less ceremonial than the story suggests. In soap, goat milk powder contributes lactic acid, which gently exfoliates and resurfaces the skin's outer layer, and vitamins A and D, which nourish and repair beneath it. The result is a lather that feels genuinely creamy — skin that responds immediately and continues to improve with consistent use.

Pearl Pink Mica: A cosmetic-grade mineral pigment that gives The Elm Bar its soft, warm luminosity. Pearl pink mica catches light gently — present without insisting on itself, the way everything else in this bar behaves. It is a finishing detail that reflects the care taken with every other element of the formula. Skin-safe, stable, and chosen with intention.

Kaolin Clay: The gentlest of clays. Draws out excess oil and impurities without disrupting the skin barrier — making it the right choice for everyday cleansing, even on sensitive and reactive skin. Present in The Elm Bar to refine without aggression, to clarify without cost.

Shea Butter: Harvested from the shea tree across sub-Saharan Africa, shea butter has been used to moisturize, protect, and heal skin for centuries. Rich in vitamins A and E and deeply emollient fatty acids, it works alongside slippery elm here to ensure that every wash leaves skin more nourished than it was before.

Scent Profile

Top Notes: Amber and patchouli — warm, resinous, and immediately present. An opening that is rich without being heavy, confident without being sharp.

Middle Notes: Blackberry — dark, slightly tart, and alive. The note that gives the fragrance its depth and keeps it from settling too soon.

Base Notes: Vanilla and sandalwood — soft, warm, and unhurried. The note that remains long after the water has gone, close to the skin and easy to live with.

*This fragrance oil is free of Paraben, Phthalate, Lyral, and Lilial.

Full Ingredients

Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Parfum (Contains/Contient: Alpha-Isomethyl ionone*, Vanillin, Hexyl cinnamaldehyde*, Benzyl salicylate*, Linalool*, Coumarin*, Citronellol*), Sodium Lactate, Capra Aegagrus Hircus (Goat) Milk Powder, Kaolin Clay, Ulmus Rubra (Slippery Elm) Bark Extract, Mica (CI 77019, CI 77891, CL 77491), Sodium Hydroxide (saponified— none remains in finished bar)

How to Use

  • Wet skin and bar with warm water.
  • Lather between hands or directly on skin — the bar will produce a rich, creamy foam with the warmth of amber and vanilla present throughout.
  • Massage gently into face or body. The slippery elm will make itself known in the lather — a softness and slip that is entirely natural. Let it work — no rush.
  • Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
  • Follow with your Crystal Beaute Co. body oil or butter to seal in moisture while skin is still slightly damp.

For best results: Store your bar on a draining soap dish between uses. A dry bar lasts longer — and a long-lasting bar is a worthy one.
